Sally Pierone : ウィキペディア英語版
Sally Pierone

Sally Pierone (born 10 February 1921) is the former art director〔Preston, Hart: “Sally Paine: American Artist in Paris,” ''The Spokesman-Review magazine,'' 1952.〕 of the Marshall Plan who in 1952 worked at the American Embassy in Paris creating posters, booklets and displays to help rebuild Europe after World War II.
A family counselor as well as an artist, Pierone created the image of "The Raft",〔Laddon, Judy: “Capsize Your Raft — A local counselor’s tool for healthy families reveals a lot about national crises (and elections),” ''Inlander,'' 30 October 2008, p. 70.〕 enlarging upon Virginia Satir's concepts of family roles by showing how four personality stereotypes counterbalance one another. She is the subject of a biography, ''Sally — The Older Woman's Illustrated Guide to Self-Improvement'', by Judy Laddon.〔Laddon, Judy: ''Sally: The Older Woman’s Illustrated Guide to Self-Improvement,'' February 2008, Sombrero Press, ISBN 978-1-934738-59-7.〕
==Early life==

Sally Pierone was born Sarah Nettleton Paine on 10 February 1921 in Spokane, Washington. She was the second of two children born to Clara Abercrombie Paine and attorney Alan Paine. Her sister, Harriet, was a year older. Her maternal grandfather, William Ralph Abercrombie,〔Col. William Ralph Abercrombie led several Alaskan expeditions seeking “an American route to the Yukon” and then instigating the building of a trans-Alaskan road. ''The Seattle Post-Intelligencer'' published a number of newspaper stories about him: 15 March 1898; 27 June 1898; 18 January 1899; 13 November 1899; 23 November 1899; 22 September 1900; 8 January 1901.〕 had been the first soldier to arrive in the small settlement of Spokane in 1877.
The newborn Sally was a blue baby who suffered from inattention because her mother was hemorrhaging during childbirth. Clara Paine survived, but for six weeks the baby remained in the hospital. This lack of early maternal bonding, in Pierone’s view, caused psychological trauma that she addressed through her art.〔Laddon, Judy: ''Sally: The Older Woman’s Illustrated Guide to Self-Improvement,'' pp. 54-55.〕
Her father was a prominent attorney, eventually a partner in a Spokane law firm that still bears his name, Paine Hamblen.〔http://www.painehamblen.com/〕 The Paine grandparents owned a family compound in nearby Hayden Lake, Idaho, where Sally and her sister spent their summers. Bing Crosby was a seasonal neighbor and friend.
